A cast of stellar names is due to line up for this prestigious darts tournament in Bahrain in January 2026. This is the first big darts event of 2026 (unless you count the World Championship, which is played to a conclusion on New Years Day every year.) This should help you make up your mind when choosing who to bet on. Most get the darts bug after watching the Worlds at Christmas (I know I do!) So read on for all you need to know.

🕙 Time:17:00 BST
🏢 Venue:BHAR International Circuit, Sakhir, Bahrain

⭐ Current Holder:Stephen Bunting (UK)

This tournament is only 3 years old, but it is following in the current trend of bringing sports to the Middle East. The trophy already has 3 illustrious dart names etched into it, with Michael Smith, Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting being the three previous winners. Those 3 players have 3 world titles between them (it could be 4 before the start of the event) and show the high regard the competition is held in by darts professionals.

The event is the first in the 2026 World Series of darts. A set of tournaments that was established by the PDC in 2013 to help spread darts around the world. Points are awarded for your finishing position in the World Series Finals to determine a final winner. With a large prize pot, this has encouraged many of the best darts players to travel to new venues and also seen local players get a game against the best in the business.

 Tournament Format

The tournament is a straight knockout draw from the last 16, the top 4 players are seeded via their world rankings at the start of the competition. In the Bahrain edition, 8 players, made up of the top Asian players, and 2 from Bahrain gain a wild card position in the last 16. This is the same in all local World Series events, allowing regional players a chance to improve their game against stronger oppenents.

Who are the Bahrain Darts Masters 2026 players to watch out for?

With only the best qualifying for the top 8 of this competition, this always includes a stellar field of the top players. They often enter in top form with the event following closely after the end of the PDC World Championship.

  • Luke Littler

    • Nationality: English
    • World Ranking: 1st
    • Record: 2024: Won, 2025: QF
    • Nickname: The Nuke

Needing no introduction, Littler has torn his way through the darting world, and he will still be only 18 when he competes here, looking to become the first man to win 2 titles in the 2026 Bahrain Masters. A top competitor who is as cool as a cucumber when the pressure gets high. He has taken up the mantle of Phil Taylor as the biggest name in World Darts.

  • Luke Humphries

    • Nationality: English
    • World Ranking: 2nd
    • Record: 2023: QF, 2024: QF, 2025: SF
    • Nickname: “Cool Hand”

Luke has never really shown his full capability at this event; he was looking like the next big thing in darts before Littler stole some of the spotlight from him in 2024, despite him winning the World Championship that year. He is still a dangerous opponent, and the man Littler will likely have to beat to win the 2026 Bahrain Masters. These two look set to battle out for most of the big rewards this season, and it all starts on the 15th January.

  • Michael Van Gerwen

    • Nationality: Dutch
    • World Ranking:3rd
    • Record: 2024: RU
    • Nickname: “Mighty Mouse”

The fast-throwing Dutchman has only appeared at this event once before, but is confirmed at the 2026 Bahrain Masters. When he was here, he came a close runner-up to Luke Littler in Littler’s breakout season. He will want to show he can still cut it on the world stage after a relatively quiet season for him last year, and this tournament should represent a chance to start the season with a bang. Watch out for Van Gerwen’s facial expressions when things get close.

  • Stephen Bunting

    • Nationality: English
    • World Ranking: 4th
    • Record: 2025: Won
    • Nickname: “The Bullet”

Big Steve Bunting is an English darting legend and has a huge fan base. You’ll see them in the crowd wearing his famous glasses and if you don’t see them you’ll hear them! He won the WDF version of the World title back in 2014 and on his day can be unplayable. He certainly was here last year with a 99.33 average in the final against Gerwyn Price. Can he hold onto his crown in the Bahrain Masters 2026?

  • Gerwyn Price

    • Nationality: Wales
    • World Ranking: 9th
    • Record: 2023: RU, 2024: SF, 2025: RU
    • Nickname: “Iceman”

Gerwyn Price is not everyone’s cup of tea, but he revels in notoriety, famously walking onto stage with ear defenders to drown out the crowd’s boos at times. He is a controversial figure at the oche, often going out of his way to rile opponents and fans during his matches. This certainly makes him an entertaining watch and he has made at least the semi-finals in all his last 3 appearances in Bahrain, twice being the beaten finalist. He was well beaten 8-4 by Bunting in 2025, but can he finally get his name on the trophy in the Bahrain Masters 2026?

Prediction for the Bahrain Darts Masters

Considering how soon this comes after the World Championship, player form is important. But it can also be handy to have had a bit of a break before heading to it. This certainly worked for big Steve Bunting in 2025. I think that Gerwyn Price will fare well at this event, he has a good history, a quieter crowd and having been dumped out early at the Worlds in round 2. However, I can’t see anyone beating either of the Lukes at the moment, and I’m plumping for Humphries to win this one.
