Betting on Goals

The English Premier League is only serving up one Boxing day game in 2025. Which is a bit of a shame, (There are still plenty of other lower league matches to bet on thankfuly). I’m focusing on this one today, which should be enjoyable. It involves two teams who can certainly score goals and have a good history against each other. The days of my youth (the late 90s), when this game saw some absolute classic matches for the title,are long gone. However, it’s still one with plenty of needle for both sides. Man Utd’s season is dribbling along without getting going, they have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 2 from their last 6 outings. This includes a thrilling 4-4 draw with Bournemouth and a pretty lacklustre loss to Aston Villa last Saturday. They haven’t had trouble scoring goals apart from the 1-0 home reverse to Everton at the end of November. However, their defence hasn’t kept a clean sheet since the 4th October – a full 11 games ago. This kind of fragility will give the visiting magpies plenty of confidence. Which is handy cos they made a real mess of being 2 goals up at home against Chelsea last Saturday. Newcastle’s last six form shows 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss to local rivals Sunderland that will still be on everyone’s minds! In the last 10 Newcastle matches, that defeat to the Mackems would have been the only game where a BTTS YES bet would have lost. This is ultimately the best prediciton I can give you for this one, however, I don’t like the odds on it. With the way the goals are flying in both nets for these two teams, take the better odds up at 1.70 that there are more than 2.5 goals by the final whistle. I’m lumping on this and watching this one while eating a leftover turkey sandwich.
