The final game of the Basketball Champions League qualifiers will feature a clash between Salon Vilpas and Oradea, with a place in the group stage of Europe’s elite competition at stake.

Quite unexpectedly, Finnish side Salon Vilpas have stepped into the spotlight. As complete underdogs, they first defeated Levice 90–87 in the quarterfinals, before delivering an impressive performance in the semifinals by beating favored Bakken Bears 90–72. This is a team largely composed of domestic players, with three American imports playing key roles. One of them, Leland Walker, has been the standout performer, scoring a combined 62 points across the last two games.

On the other side, Romanian team Oradea justified their favorite status in previous rounds and are now just one step away from their goal. They comfortably defeated AEK Larnaca and Batumi. While those opponents were not particularly strong, Oradea handled the job professionally and without complications.

Oradea cannot afford even the slightest underestimation of their opponent. After all, we saw how Breogán lost to Warsaw despite being a heavy favorite, which should serve as a serious warning. The Finnish side can be dangerous if they find their rhythm, and Salon Vilpas certainly deserve respect for what they have achieved so far. However, Oradea are simply the more experienced, deeper, and physically stronger team. I expect them to show that on the court and secure a relatively comfortable win that would send them into the Basketball Champions League.
