Switzerland faces Sweden as they meet eachother in this penultimate game in their qualifying group. Switzerland are well out in front in Group B on 10 points and know they just need a win to ensure qualification to North America next year. Sweden on the other hand has to win here, and then again in their final match, to have any chance of scraping a playoff place. This is due to suffering 3 defeats since opening the campaign with a 2-2 draw with Slovenia. In terms of first goalscorers, Rennes forward Breel Embolo is the main dangerman for the Swiss and could be worth a first goalscorer punt. The Swedish squad is in the middle of a major rebuilding process and has lots of youngsters across the team. This campaign may well be a step too far for them, despite many of these youngsters playing in the top leagues in European football. When these two met in Sweden in October Switzerland had a very comfortable 2-0 win in the cold. The highly experienced Granit Xhaka scored from the spot just after an hour and they made it two late on, showing a solid defensive and counter-attacking display.

I can’t see anything other than a Swiss win in this fixture even though it could be tighter than we might think. The Swiss team is filled with big game experience and they will have their tails up after their excellent run in qualifying matches. Sweden is in dire straits and have to get a result here. There is nothing to suggest they will from previous matches and I like the odds on Switzertland to lead at both full and half time.
