For years now, Lithuania has failed to even come close to competing for qualification in major tournaments. The same pattern continues this time as well — after six group matches, they’ve collected only three points (two draws against Malta and one at home, 2–2 against Finland). They showed some fighting spirit in their recent losses to the Netherlands and Finland, but the quality gap compared to teams at this level is obvious.
Under coach Michał Probierz, Poland seems to be rising to a higher level. It was a team that had long been performing well below its potential. After a 1–1 away draw with the Netherlands, they followed up with a convincing 3–1 home win over Finland, keeping their chances for the top spot in the group alive.
Lithuania is a low-level side, winless in their last 14 matches, and without any realistic motivation in the standings. Poland, meanwhile, is fighting with the Netherlands for first place, clearly superior in quality, and in good spirits following the coaching change and strong results in September.
