The first ever Club World Cup in such an extensive format will come to a close at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, in front of more than 80,000 fans eager for an exciting football spectacle. And the names of the finalists certainly promise that.

It’s somewhat surprising to see Chelsea in the final, but it’s important to note that throughout the tournament, they’ve played only one match against a European team – Benfica, whom they defeated in the Round of 16. After that, they were more successful than the Brazilian sides Palmeiras and Fluminense. So, their path hasn’t been as difficult as the one PSG faced, at least on paper.

The current European champions, PSG, first demolished Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the group stage, had an easy job against Inter Miami in the Round of 16, also 4-0, and then produced pure magic in the quarterfinals and especially the semifinals, with victories over Bayern (2-0) and a commanding win against Real Madrid (4-0). That match once again confirmed that the Parisians are the best European team at the moment.

It’s not just PSG’s formidable form that sets them apart from their opponents in this final. They haven’t conceded a goal against top-class rivals, they play aggressively and creatively in midfield, and their key players are healthy. The midfield trio of Neves–Vitinha–Ruiz is expected to shine once again and secure a big win through excellent organization and control of the game. It’s hard to find weaknesses in their play, while Chelsea’s best hope for a good result would be if the match slows down into a lower-scoring affair. However, that doesn’t seem particularly likely right now, and for that reason, I expect a comfortable victory for the French team, with several goals scored. A final score of 3-0 or 3-1 seems the most likely outcome.
