Types of Sports Betting Odds
Zambian bookmakers offer several types of odds. Fractional, American, and decimal are the most common variations. We will be analyzing these types below:
Fractional Odds
Fractional odds are the most common on many betting sites. The odds are displayed as a fraction, with either the numerator or denominator having a higher value. If the numerator is large, such as 12/1, the probability of the outcome occurring is low. When the denominator is large, like 1/3 odds, the probability of the bet occurring is higher.
When it comes to value, the first number dictates how much you can make from the bet if you stake the second number. If you wager 50 ZMW on a 12/1 bet, your possible winnings will be 600 ZMW (50 x12) plus your stake, amounting to 650 ZMW. If the odds are 1/3, your possible win will be 66 ZMW (50 x 0.33 plus stake).
Decimal Odds
Decimal odds are also quite popular, especially on Zambian betting sites. Most betting sites operating outside the UK or US use these odds. When the decimal odds are high, the betting probability is low, while probability increases when the decimal odds are lower. To calculate value, simply multiply your stake by the odds. A 50 ZMW stake on 2.50 odds will provide a possible win of 125 ZMW.
American Odds
These odds are more popular in the USA. They are presented with a + or - sign, which shows the probability. If the probability is high, the odds will have a + sign, while low probability odds have a - sign. You can also determine probability by checking how far away from 100 the odds are. The further the odds, the lower the probability. For example, if the odds are +230, it means that you will get 230 ZMW for every 100 ZMW staked. The possible win will be 330 ZMW (230 + 100). If the odds are -150, it means you need to stake at least 150 ZMW to turn a 100 ZMW profit. The possible win of such a bet if you stake 150 ZMW would be 250 ZMW (150 + 100).
