A crucial midweek match with both teams needing points — Real Madrid after losing the top spot in the standings, and Bilbao in order to continue their comeback push after falling behind in the table.

Valverde’s Basques have not found any rhythm this season so far; perhaps this is the right moment after their easy win over Levante. Bilbao have many weaknesses, especially in attack (although Nico Williams has returned from injury), and they have not taken advantage of the traditionally strong home support, with mixed results at San Mames.

Real Madrid could not turn the match around against Girona and had to settle for a draw. Too many draws, defensive problems (also due to absences), and a mediocre away record so far for the “merengues”.

I believe the home side’s attacking mindset will put Real’s defense in trouble, making it difficult for them to keep a clean sheet. On the other hand, the attacking power of the visitors is unquestionable, and it seems unlikely that Bilbao’s vulnerable defense will keep them from scoring.

A good price for a bet on the simple both teams to score.
