- Form of Cricket: Test Match (Series best of 5)
Australia holds the home advantage in this edition of the Ashes, which is played over five matches in November. They will be followed by a set of games played in both the T20 and ODI formats of cricket. For this text, we shall concentrate on the test matches and the opening match in the main. All five of the Tests will count for points in the World Test Championship.
The Ashes began as an idea in 1882 after England lost at the Oval to Australia. The Times newspaper stated that English cricket had died and its body would be cremated and carried to Australia. From here, a fierce rivalry began, and all Test tours by either country from then onwards were known as the Ashes. The trophy is transferred from the winning team each time, and the trophy is retained if the series is drawn. Australia are the current champions and has won 34 times while England have 32 wins from 73 series played. The Australians retained the Ashes after drawing a fantastic series 2-2 in 2023 while on tour in England.
What is the latest team news?
Let’s have a deep dive into both squads and check the team news for them. Exactly who is fit and which ones are in form makes a big difference when we are creating our Australia vs England prediction.
Australia
The Aussies are in fine form in Test matches and secured a brilliant 2-1 (3) win away in India at the start of this year. They followed this up by beating Sri Lanka also away in February 2-0 (3). In July the West Indies were taken apart with a 3-0 (3) whitewash. The only blemish on that record was the one-off World Test Championship final against South Africa.
The squad is full of well-known names and brims with confidence and ability with both bat and ball. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc stand as two of the best current all-rounders in the game. Steve Smith has terrorised England before and he will again take up the crease against his old foes. Josh Hazlewood will hope he continues his excellent bowling form.
England
In Test terms England have been in solid form, beating New Zealand 2-1 (3) followed up with an easy win in a one off test against Zimbabwe. They drew 2-2 (5) in a thrilling series with India in the summer that seems to set them up quite nicely for the upcoming contest.
They boast the world’s two top-ranked batsman the evergreen Joe Root, and the younger but super-talented Harry Brook. Ben Duckett is also playing well. Gus Atkinson is an all-rounder who has shone against Zimbabwe and will hope to do so again against stronger opposition. In bowling terms, Jofra Archer looks to be back to fitness and England will hope he can take wickets like he did of old. Of course all this omits Ben Stokes the captain and talisman so many times for England, this is likely his final Ashes and he will want to go out with a bang.

Prediction for the Australia vs England 1st Test & Ashes
So with all this having been said we can now make our final Australia vs England Prediction for the upcoming series and important first test match in Perth. For the opening match things will be tense I’m thinking Australia will have the edge with home advantage and that their pace bowlers will take the day. I really think this series is going to be a classic and very close to call. I have a feeling home advantage will allow Australia to edge it 3-2. The weather should ensure all matches are played to a finish and with the bowling talents of both teams. I can’t envisage many if any drawn matches as both sides have enough skill to take the 20 wickets per match they need,. Plus days are unlikely to be lost to weather as they often are in England.
