Can Bosnia make it to their 2nd World Cup Finals?

So let’s look into the match so we can get ourselves a Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Romania- Prediction. Bosnia are currently sitting second the group and has put themselves in a strong position to make the playoffs. Group H is one of the 5 team groups in the UEFA qualifying sections. The group winners go straight to the 2026 World Cup Finals and the runners-up go into the UEFA playoffs section. The teams finishing in 3rd, 4th, and 5th will have to wait a further 4 years for another chance of making the World Cup finals.

At this stage, Bosnia and Herzegovina are topping the group and are in the best position to get themselves through as playoff winners. Romania need to win this one and then beat group whipping boys San Marino to take 2nd spot after a nerve-jangling 1-0 win over Austria kept them in contention.

Day: Saturday 15th November
Time: 19:45
Stadium: Bilino Polje Stadium, Zenica, Bosnia
Tournament: World Cup Qualifiers – Europe Group H

Bosnia and Herzegovina won the first match between these two on the opening matchday of the group with a tight 1-0 away win. Midfielder Armin Gigovic hit the only goal 14 minutes into the match. Home side Romania dominated the match with 16 attempts on goal to Bosnia’s 5, but they could not find an equaliser.

This game could well see Bosnia still have a chance of top spot or guarantee them a playoff place. Romania will become favourites for that 2nd place if they win away here as they can improve their goal difference in their last home game against the San Marinse who have conceded 32 goals in 7 games so far.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina have only ever made the World Cup finals once before, back in 2014, with Edin Dzeko’s goals the main reason they got through. He is still in the team now and is the nation’s top scorer and has the most caps. In terms of form, Bosnia were relegated from the Nations League A, picking up only 2 points in 6 games from a group with Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary in 2024. Since then they have won 4 from the last 8, including 2 home wins, but lost an important qualifier against Austria in September at home that could prove costly for World Cup qualification. That was compounded by a shock draw away in Cyprus last time out, they looked to be cruising at 2-0, but conceded in the last minute of the first half then again by conceding a penalty in the 97th minute!

Romania

Romania were a regular at the World Cup in the 1990’s, appearing in all 3 editions: 1990,94 and 98; however they have not been in the Final stages since that last appearance. Before that, they also appeared in all 3 1930s editions, but have qualified just once in between. They are currently not in great form despite a strong 2024 that saw them promoted to League B in the Nations League with 6 straight wins over admittedly low-level opposition. They lost their first 2 big games in qualifying, home to Bosnia and away to Austria, only managed one win over San Marino and lost and drew with Cyprus, which left them in a precarious position in terms of improving their number of World Cup Final appearances. They looked dead and buried, but Bosnia’s draw in Cyprus was followed by their own late miracle against Austria. With the Austrians looking to hold out for an important point, Romania managed a 95th minute winner through centre back Virgil Ghita to keep hopes alive.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Romania – Possible lineups

In terms of line-ups these are vital when making a Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Romania- Prediction.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are free of injuries or suspensions at the time of writing for this upcoming game. Their squad still includes talisman Edin Dzeko who is going strong at 39 and still playing top-flight football in Serie A for Fiorentina. Other than him they have a young squad with little international experience and mainly based outside Europe’s top leagues. Dennis Hadžikadunic the big centre back from Sampdoria, is one of the more important players with 28 caps. Dženis Burnić, who plays in the Bundesliga is also important in midfield. The play an attacking 4-3-3 formation.

While for the Romanians, they will enter this match with a need to get a result and should field an attacking lineup. They have plenty of experience in the defence and midfield sections of the squad however they have a relatively inexperienced forward line and goalkeeper. Midfielder Răzvan Marin has over 70 caps and is a focal point of the team, also important is Ianis Hagi who plays attacking midfielder the same as his father, Gheorghe Hagi who graced the World Cup sides of the 1990’s. While inexperienced at the international level Ionuț Radu the keeper is one of the few players to play in the top European leagues, plying his trade at Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Prediction Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Romania

Match Prediction – Both teams to score YES

In our Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Romania – Prediction we have to look carefully at all the outcomes. I think with the amount at stake in this game both teams will need to push hard for a result and I am backing the Both teams to score YES market in this one. Both sides have players that can score goals and with a likely World Cup playoff spot being decided by the outcome, I can see both sides hitting the back of the net in the 90 minutes. I would look at Dzeko who is surely playing his final games for his country as an outside chance for the anytime to score market.

We expect the odds on BTTS to be roughly 2.30 to 2.60 so if you can find a bookmaker offering this then it is a good bet.
