The neighborhood derby between Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia is drawing major attention in the second round of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. This will be only the second official meeting between these national teams, following their first clash at EuroBasket 2013, where Serbia claimed a 77–67 victory.
Like most teams in this international window, both sides are significantly weakened by the absence of key players. Bosnia & Herzegovina cannot count on Dzanan Musa or Kenan Kamenjaš, as their club in Dubai did not release them, and additional concerns come from the absences of Edin Atić, Aleksandar Lazić, and Amar Gegić. Serbia, on the other hand, is also without its EuroLeague players, with Ognjen Dobrić being the only reinforcement after missing the game against Switzerland.
Bosnia & Herzegovina had little chance in the opening round, losing heavily to Turkey in Istanbul, 93–71. Serbia, meanwhile, barely escaped with a win against a modest Swiss team, edging out a 90–86 victory filled with inconsistency and particularly poor defensive execution.
This matchup will be a major challenge for both sides. Bosnia & Herzegovina will have strong support from the home crowd, but that is practically their only advantage. In these weakened lineups, Serbia remains individually stronger at nearly every position, and is expected to justify its role as the favorite despite the flaws shown in the previous game against Switzerland.
