France vs Ukraine – Prediction: Can France secure Qualification?

France takes on Ukraine in their third Group D World Cup Qualifying game in November. France is in decent form at present, currently topping their Qualification group. They did, however, surprisingly draw away in Iceland, having to come from behind twice last time out. Ukraine have not had the greatest of starts to their campaign, but still remain in the hunt for at least a Play-off place after a 2-1 win over Azerbaijan. Read on to find our France vs Ukraine predictions.

DayThursday, 13 November
Time:20:45 (Local Time)
Stadium:Parc des Princes, Paris
Tournament:World Cup Qualifier Group D – Matchday 5

France head into this World Cup Qualifier in good form. At the time of writing, they had won nine of their last 12 fixtures in all competitions. Their last defeat came in the Nations League Semi-Final, where they lost 5-3 in a pulsating match against Spain. France is in good goalscoring form, too, scoring 12 goals in their last five fixtures.

Ukraine’s form has been up-and-down to say the least. In 2025 so far, they have won three and lost three of their seven matches, and had a potentially damaging draw in their 2nd  World Cup Qualifying match of this group away against Azerbaijan.

France are heavy favourites to win Group D outright, and should not have a problem with cementing that claim in this one. Ukraine are battling it out with Iceland to earn second place and with it a spot in the UEFA Play-offs. For Ukraine, a point is the minimum they really need too.

These two sides have already faced each other in Group D, with France proving victorious with a comfortable 2-0 win in September.

France – Great Form at Home

France head into this one with Qualification potentially on the brink of being secured. In fact they only need a draw to confirm their place in North America next year. Their recent record has been excellent, and even more so on home soil. They have not lost at home for over a year, when Italy beat them 3-1 in September 2024. In fact, France has only lost five of their last 22 matches, stretching back to the beginning of 2024, in any competition.

Ukraine – Looking for Consistency

Ukraine’s form has been rather patchy, and they will need to improve on this if they are to book a spot in the World Cup 2026. In their last 21 games, they have won nine, lost seven and drawn five in all competitions. They could only earn a draw away at Azerbaijan, which was a game they had thought they would pick all three points from. They improved on this in the return fixture, which was played at the neutral ground in Warsaw due to the ongoing war in the area. This has left them in a position where they can still sneak into top spot, although this will involve a win over France away and then victory at home to Iceland. A playoff spot looks the more likely route to the finals from their current position.

For our France vs Ukraine prediction, we have analysed the recent form of both sides.

France vs Ukraine – Possible lineups

France have had injuries to key players, but it is likely they will all be able to make their return for their game against Ukraine. Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele is likely to be fit for this one, alongside his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Désire Doué. Kheprem Thuram might also have recovered from his calf injury in time to make the squad for 13th November.

Ukraine do not have any new injury worries or suspensions, and it is likely they will field a similar team to the one who were beaten by France in September. Artem Dovbyk is likely to lead the line again, although Vladyslav Vanat will be pushing for a start.

France possible XI:

GK: Mike Maignan

DEF: Jules Kounde, Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Theo Hernandez

ATT: Bradley Barcola, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembele

Ukraine possible XI:

Prediction France vs Ukraine – Can Ukraine resist France’s Firepower?

France vs Ukraine prediction – France to win and Over 2.5 Goals.

While Ukraine are desperate for the points, it seems very unlikely they will be able to take anything away from the Parc des Princes. With the chance to ensure World Cup qualification and in front of an expectant home crowd. I feel that France will win this reasonably comfortably, especially with the firepower of Kylian Mbappe and the potential return of Ousmane Dembele.

However, we would not be surprised to see Ukraine snatch a goal, especially with a lot at stake for them, hence our Over 2.5 Goals being part of our prediction. At the same time, we expect France to find the next two or three times to solidify their Qualification towards the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The odds for this prediction will be around 2.20 to 2.30 and anything more than this is a good bet.
