The legendary German club, winner of the European Cup and numerous domestic titles, has finally returned to the Bundesliga after years of struggling in the second division. The goal is clear – not to go back down again. That is why they brought in significant reinforcements during the transfer window, but the competition for survival this season will be merciless. In the first three rounds, they have collected only one point and have yet to score a single goal, so they urgently need new points to ease the pressure. Last week, they suffered a heavy defeat against Bayern in Munich, 5-0, but realistically, many weaker teams than Hamburg are likely to experience something similar at the Allianz Arena.

A similar, if not worse, situation exists in Heidenheim. After three rounds, they still don’t have a point, which further raises the tension within the club. Last season they managed to stay in the league through the playoffs, but now the competition is much stronger, and they will need a far better performance than what they have shown so far. In attack they are toothless, while in defense they show plenty of weaknesses, so the battle for survival is inevitable.

The importance of this match is enormous for both clubs. Judging by everything we’ve seen at the start of the season, both Hamburg and Heidenheim will fight desperately to stay up until the very end, so a victory in such direct duels is worth double. Both teams are struggling badly in finishing and find it hard to create chances, so a tough and nervous match with many stoppages, fouls, and disruptions of play is expected. Everything indicates that both sides will primarily focus on protecting their own goal, so under 2.5 goals seems the most logical choice.
