Nõmme Kalju from Estonia finished second in the league last season and won the domestic Cup. This year, after the first 20 matchdays, they are in 3rd place in the standings. In the past, they’ve had a few isolated successes in these types of European qualifiers, but overall, they haven’t made any notable runs.
A major advantage for them in this matchup is their team chemistry and, more importantly, their match fitness, since their league is in full swing.
Partizani is coming off a disappointing season, having finished 3rd in the Albanian league. On paper, they have a more talented squad than their opponent, although we’re talking about players with a combined market value of just €4.5 million. The team is undergoing a major overhaul, with ten players (most of them key figures) having already left. Their roster has obvious gaps and zero official matches under its belt so far.
In a two-legged tie, they deserve to be considered favorites for qualification, but in the first leg, away from home, they’re unlikely to have an easy time.
