Betting on goals

Pubs and the stands will be packed after Sunday lunches up and down the UK as the nation’s two most well supported teams face off. Sometimes called the Northwest derby, this is the game that can define a season even more so than a Manchester or Mersey Derby for the fans and supporters. It is arguably a bigger match for Liverpool in some ways, as they have suffered 3 straight defeats heading into this against Palace, Chelsea and Galatasaray (which I called last week!). They won 7 on the trot before that in all competitions.

Liverpool get goals from anywhere Hugo Ekitike is the main dangerman currently, though Mo Salah is usually good for a goal against the Scousers as well. Man Utd are in poor form away from home this season, with 2 losses and a draw, plus that embarrassing EFL cup defeat to Grimsby! This match should bring out the best in them however. They managed a 2-2 draw at Anfield last year despite a woeful league campaign. Bryan Mbeumo is my pick for a goalscorer, though the Cameroonian will likely be in a bad mood after his national side lost out to the Cape Verde Islands in the World Cup and now have to take a perilous route through the playoff section to make it to the Finals.

I am going to be a bit cheeky here and stick my neck out for Man Utd to grab the first goal of the game. There is no real value to backing Liverpool to win unless you are sticking on a large handicap. I fancy Man Utd to start strongly, they have nothing to lose, and Liverpool will just be lacking a bit of confidence I think after those losses.
