Former EuroLeague participant Maroussi has long since stopped being a factor in Greek basketball. In recent seasons, the club has mostly been fighting desperately to avoid relegation, and judging by the start of this season, the same scenario may repeat itself. Looking at the roster, it seems the team is performing far below its potential. There are names such as Darryl Macon, JaCorey Williams, and Maxim Salas, players with rich international experience, yet the results are still missing.

On the other hand, PAOK is going through a period of competitive and organizational rise. The club was taken over by one of the wealthiest men in Greece, Aristotelis Mistakidis, which opened the door to ambitions that PAOK could become a serious challenger to the Athens giants in the coming years. The goals are high already this season, and an additional boost came with the arrival of Igokea’s best player, who has been averaging 17 points this season in both the ABA League and Basketball Champions League.

We can expect many interesting matchups in this duel. Despite their current position in the standings, Maroussi has the quality and potential to go on a run of good results and escape the bottom. PAOK is a serious challenge, but certainly not an insurmountable one.
