In Round 13 of the Premier League, Manchester City host Leeds after suffering back-to-back defeats.

Against Newcastle, the Citizens were unlucky not to convert several clear chances, which the hosts punished efficiently. However, the loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League was the result of underestimating the opponent and Pep’s heavy rotations. Guardiola rested almost all of his starters, and the attacking trio of Marmoush–Savinho–Bobb couldn’t come close to replicating Erling Haaland’s impact or meeting the expected level. By the time he introduced his key players in the second half, it was already too late — Leverkusen defended superbly and managed to keep a clean sheet.

Leeds, meanwhile, are in a serious slump. They are on a run of three consecutive defeats, which has dropped them into the danger zone, sitting 18th in the table. The loss to Aston Villa at Elland Road was particularly painful — after an excellent first half and a goal from Lukas Nmecha, they threw everything away in just 30 minutes of the second half. The battle for survival is intense, and Leeds will have to significantly raise their level if they want to achieve their goal.

City will be highly motivated to respond after the poor showing against Leverkusen. Guardiola no longer has the luxury of rotating heavily, especially with Arsenal already seven points clear at the top of the table. Leeds are coming to the Etihad at the worst possible moment and could easily become collateral damage of Pep’s experimentation in the previous match. I expect the visitors to pick the ball out of their net at least three times.
