The derby match of ABA League Round 8 will be played in Subotica, where the home team Spartak will host Cedevita Olimpija.

Spartak opened the season with four consecutive wins, but a sudden drop in form followed. Defeats to Ilirija and Bosna—opponents they were certainly capable of matching—clearly showed that something isn’t functioning as it should. Their performance in Sarajevo was especially poor: they finished the game with just 57 points, missing heavily both from the perimeter and the free-throw line.

On the other hand, Cedevita Olimpija arrives in Subotica in precisely the kind of mood every coach would want. Even though the roster may not be as star-studded as last season, Mitrović’s system is working exceptionally well—basketball is fluid, attractive, and efficient, and every player knows their role.

Dudova Šuma Sports Hall will be a difficult venue for many teams this season, but Olimpija is not the kind of opponent anyone wants to face in their current form. The visitors play highly unselfish basketball, the ball moves constantly, decisions are smart, and the defense is organized and solid.

Far from an easy task for Ljubljana’s side, but based on the current situation, Olimpija appears closer to the win. If they reproduce the level shown in recent games, they have all the tools to leave Subotica with another victory.
