While the Swedes have work to do, are the Swiss heading to North America?

Let’s have a look at the Switzerland vs Sweden prediction in a bit more detail. The two teams are striving to make it to the upcoming World Cup from Group B, which is a 4 team group. The qualification format allows the top team to go directly to the World Cup and the 2nd place team will advance to the UEFA playoff section, while the sides in 3rd and 4th will need to wait another four years for a chance to make the final stages again.

In a well-matched group Sweden and Switzerland were slight favourites for the top two spots before a ball was kicked, although Slovenia and Kosovo are also both hard to beat. In terms of the games that have already been played, Switzerland have put themselves into top spot and will just need a win over Sweden to secure the top spot. Sweden on the other hand had a terrible campaign and will likely need to win away in Switzerland and rely on other results even to secure 2nd place and a playoff spot.

Day: Saturday 15th Novemeber
Time: 20:45
Stadium: Stade de Genève, Geneva, Switzerland
Tournament: World Cup Qualifiers- Europe Group B

This will be the 2nd meeting between the two sides, with Switzerland winning comfortably 2-0 away in Sweden in October, which has left Sweden bottom of the table and the Swiss top.

Both sides have been regulars in previous World Cups, with Switzerland having qualified for the last 5 consecutively since 2006. However they have never gone beyond the Quarter Finals in any of their previous appearances. Sweden has a much better record in terms of how far they have been in finals tournaments, with one runner-up spot from 4 semi-final appearances. However, this is all quite a long time ago with their last time in the final 4 back in 1994. They have only made 3 of the last 6 World Cups, and their last outing was in 2018.

Switzerland

In terms of form in their last 6 games the Swiss won 5 matches on the trot but were held to a 0-0 draw away in Slovenia. They had a tough 2024, being relegated from the Nations League Group B without a win in 6 matches. The Swiss defence has been particularly solid with 5 straight clean sheets. They have comfortable wins over both Kosovo and Slovenia earlier in the group, and the important win away in Sweden which means they will approach this match with high confidence.

Sweden

Sweden got promoted to League B without losing a single game during the 2024 Nations League season. They also looked in good form in friendlies with wins over Northern Ireland, Hungary and Algeria coming in this World Cup campaign. However, they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Kosovo after a 2-2 draw in Slovenia in the first two matches of the group. Leaving them some work to do to even make a playoff spot. This wasn’t achieved in their last 2 games however with consecutive home defeats without scoring to both Switzerland and Slovenia. They can still haul themselves into the playoffs but have to turn things around with a win in this one.

Switzerland vs Sweden – Possible Line-ups

It’s important to look at the teams when we are making a Switzerland vs Sweden – Prediction. The Swiss have no injuries or suspensions that are affecting their team lineup at this stage of the competition. They have a very experienced squad at the international level, including Ricardo Rodriguez (131 caps), Granit Xhaka (139 caps), Remo Freuler (82 Caps) and Rennes forward Breel Embolo (79 caps). Their goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel however has only made 15 appearances for his country and the Dortmund stopper may be a weak link in the team.

Sweden have no known injuries or suspensions to interfere with their lineup heading into this game. Their forward line has a multitude of Premier League talent in it including Liverpool striker Alexander Isak, and Arsenal frontman Viktor Gyökeres.  The squad also includes legendary Henrik Larsson’s son, Jordan Larsson. In fact, they have Premier League talent running right through the side including the improving youngster Lucas Bergvall from Spurs and defender  Gabriel Gudmundsson who is playing well at Leeds.

Prediction Switzerland vs Sweden

Match Prediction: Switzerland to score first

My Switzerland vs Sweden prediction is for a Swiss win in this fixture even though it might be a close game. I think they will be coming into this game in top confidence and be in a position to just need a result to get themselves to a sixth consecutive World Cup. The Swiss team have a lot more big game experience, and Sweden’s slow start to the campaign will likely still see them scrambling for a playoff place. If the odds aren’t really doing enough for you for this, then look at Switzerland to score first or add in a handicap of at least -1 against the home side for a better monetary return. I’m going with Switzerland to get the first goal as my pre match betting prediction.

We expect that the “Switzerland to score first” odds to be between 2.10 and 2.40 so if a bookmaker is offering odds greater than that then this is a good bet.
