Tonight we can expect a potentially very interesting EuroLeague matchup between Valencia and Zalgiris, one that could further complicate the standings.
Valencia are in outstanding form and currently sit in second place with a 19–10 record. In the previous round they demolished Baskonia away from home 108–79, once again showcasing their ultra-fast style of basketball and highly efficient offensive execution. Now they welcome Zalgiris to Roig Arena, a team that has found momentum in recent weeks and, with three wins in their last four games, has improved to 17–12 and joined the group of teams seriously competing for direct playoff qualification.
The Lithuanians secured their latest victory after a huge battle in Kaunas, defeating Olympiacos 99–94 after two overtimes. One of the key contributors was center Moses Wright, who against his former club recorded a strong double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds while playing as many as 38 minutes.
As the season progresses, Wright is becoming an increasingly important factor in Zalgiris’ system. Early in the season he had some fluctuations and disagreements with the coaching staff, but he now enjoys the full trust of the coach. After Birutis’ injury he has remained the only true center in the rotation. He may not be the most refined low-post player, but he is extremely effective in pick-and-roll situations with Francisco and in fighting for offensive rebounds that often lead to easy points. In a high-tempo game like the one expected against Valencia, his physicality and energy could come fully into play, so it would not be surprising to see him deliver another dominant performance.
