EuroLeague: Virtus Bologna vs Panathinaikos 24/10/2025

In Round 6 of the EuroLeague, we’ll see several clashes between former European champions, and one of the most intriguing will be this matchup between Virtus Bologna and Panathinaikos.
Virtus Bologna have been performing very well so far in the continent’s top competition. They currently stand at 3–2, and in the previous round, they recorded their first away win of the season against ASVEL. The main figure in that game was Carsen Edwards, who shone with 36 points and almost single-handedly led his team to victory.
However, after a successful “double week” in the EuroLeague, an unexpected setback followed — they suffered an unpleasant home defeat to Cremona in the domestic championship, which will certainly serve as extra motivation to redeem themselves and deliver a much stronger performance in front of their fans at the legendary PalaDozza.
On the other hand, Panathinaikos are in excellent form and currently top the standings with four wins and one loss. Ergin Ataman’s team is coming off an impressive “double week,” having defeated ASVEL at home and then Anadolu Efes in Istanbul. Ahead of this away trip, they face issues in their frontcourt rotation — Mathias Lessort remains sidelined with an injury, while Richaun Holmes was hurt over the weekend and will also miss this game. This will force Ataman into further tactical adjustments and improvisations.
Virtus have shown that they are an extremely tough host at PalaDozza — both Real Madrid and Monaco have already fallen there this season — making it clear that no one can be underestimated in this arena. Experienced coach Duško Ivanović is certainly dissatisfied with his players’ approach against Cremona and is expected to have them highly motivated for this clash with the EuroLeague leader.
Although Panathinaikos are the favorites on paper, Virtus always play above their usual level at home. We can expect a tough, hard-fought game where the visitors remain favorites, but the hosts will be ready to seize any opportunity.
