What is an Asian Handicap +0.25 / -0.25 Bet?

An Asian Handicap can be best described as one team giving the other either a headstart or a deficit that they need to make up. It is this deficit that gives the name, acting as a “handicap”. It is not explicitly clear when or why these bets became known as “Asian Handicaps” but it does not really matter now. It is commonly accepted that Asian Handicaps is their name and is probably because many Asian based based bookmakers traditionally offered this bet when other areas of the world did not.
Let us explain…
What does -0.25 Asian Handicap Mean?
When an Asian Handicap bet includes either a 0.25 or a 0.75 something happens to your bet which is unusual. The bet you place is in effect not one but TWO bets. You only physically place one bet, and you will only get paid one time if it wins, but the way the result is settled and the amount of the payout will be calculated as if it is two bets.
Half of your bet will be on the -0 market, and the other half will be on the -0.5 market.
- If your team wins by 1 clear goal, then the bet will win
- If it is a draw, half the bet loses, but you get back half of your stake
- The team that you have bet on loses then you lose all your stake

What does +0.25 Asian Handicap Mean?
This is the same concept because the bet includes a 0.25 in the handicap total so it is also in effect not one but TWO bets. Again as before you only place one bet, and you will only get one payout in return, but the way the result is settled and the amount of the payout will be calculated as if it is two bets. For this reason the “+0.25” bet can also be called the “+0 & +1.5 bet”, it is exactly the same thing.
Half of your bet will be on the -0 market, and the other half will be on the -0.5 market.
- If your team wins by 1 clear goal, then the bet will win
- If it is a draw, half the bet wins, and you get back the other half of your stake
- The team that you have bet on loses then you lose all your stake

Loss | Lose |

Asian handicap betting conclusion
They can at times be a bit more difficult to get your head around than other types of bet and that is mainly because of the different amounts that can be won or lost if the result means half the bet draws. Despite this thought it is not too difficult it is not too difficult to divide a number by two, and most sites will display the various amounts on the betslip for you.
Asian handicap bets can be a useful thing to bet on when you are trying to get odds closer to an even money return, and quarter handicaps like this are good if you are not entirely confident in your prediction, because in the draw scenario some of your stake is returned.
-
The zero signifies that neither team is getting an advantage but if it is a draw then all stakes are returned. This can also be called “Draw no bet”.
-
There are a few differences but the main one is that you can specifically bet on just a draw “after” the handicap is applied with a European Handicap. Asian Handicaps do not have that option, and if it is a draw after the handicap then the stakes are returned.
-
You do so in exactly the same way as any other bet, just log into your betting site, and all the relevant details to the betslip and submit.
