Betting on Asian Handicap

I only had one bet midweek. I didn’t add anything else — the schedule didn’t really catch my attention, so I deleted two or three bets I had on hold and that was it. The Barcelona -1 Asian handicap against Atletico Madrid in the cup paid out very comfortably and was my only bet. I’m going with exactly the same pick again in the league against Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona didn’t make it to the final. Neither did Athletic Bilbao, who were eliminated a day later (Wednesday night) by Real Sociedad.

Now the two disappointed and eliminated teams meet in a league match in Bilbao. Athletic haven’t been good at all this season. They have a huge problem scoring goals, they were also hit by injuries for a long period, and overall it’s been a strange season for Ernesto Valverde. Tomorrow they won’t have Nico Williams, one of the few players who can currently win a game almost on his own for the Basques.

Barcelona also have important absences (Balde, De Jong, Christensen, Kounde), but I think their attacking players are in such good form right now that they can still get the job done. Barcelona are missing some defensive pieces, but Athletic simply aren’t scoring.

In the last five meetings between the two teams, Barcelona have won with clean sheets and by at least two goals each time. That’s where I’m going… Barcelona -1 @ 2.10. I would just as easily take -0.75 at 1.80 with the same bookmaker, but personally I prefer the -1.

It’s the same bet that paid out in the 5-0 Super Cup win at the beginning of January.
