World Cup Qual: Bosnia vs Italy 31/03/2026

High-stakes playoff final where Bosnia can be dangerous at home, but both teams show clear defensive weaknesses. The best value lies in goals, with a safer approach on over 2.25.
Betting on Goals
A single playoff final for a place in the World Cup finals. In case of a draw, extra time follows and, if necessary, penalties.
In the playoff semifinal, Bosnia equalized at 1-1 with a goal from Dzeko in the 86th minute and eliminated Wales on penalties in Cardiff. They are also underdogs in the match against Italy, but inside the “cage” of Zenica they are capable of challenging even much stronger teams. They have a tough squad, with quality options in attack and midfield, but inconsistency in their defensive play. Offensively, they have scored in each of their last twelve matches and it seems very likely they will trouble their opponent more than the away odds of 1.55 suggest.
Italy won 2-0 in their home semifinal against Northern Ireland, a match where they showed their superior quality on the pitch. As a team, they do not seem to have the traditional characteristics that usually define the “Squadra Azzurra”. Defensively they look quite vulnerable, especially against quality opponents, while offensively they score with ease.
During 2025 we saw them involved in results such as 3-3 with Germany, 5-4 with Israel, and defeats of 3-0 and 4-1 against Norway.
The stakes of the match are huge and the teams will certainly not take big risks from the start. However, neither of them inspires confidence defensively. One goal would automatically change the character of the game.
At this specific venue, Bosnia can put even stronger opponents under pressure, but I see greater value in the goals scenario. With the over 2.5 offered by bookmakers around 2.20, there is room to back the more conservative 2.25 line.
