ABA League: Buducnost vs Cluj 14/03/2026

Budućnost will try to respond to the heavy EuroCup defeat against Cluj through a much stronger defensive approach and tactical adjustments in the new matchup, which could unfold quite differently this time.

Just three days after their clash in the EuroCup Round of 16, Budućnost and Cluj will meet again, this time in an ABA League game.

The Montenegrin side suffered a serious blow on Wednesday, losing convincingly 100–82 in front of their home fans, which ended their ambitions for a deep run in the second-tier European competition. They now have no choice but to respond quickly and show a reaction after such a disappointing defeat.

Very little worked for Budućnost in that game against a highly motivated Cluj team, who disrupted the hosts’ game plan with aggressive defense and their characteristic fast tempo. Even Budućnost’s excellent three-point shooting (13/28) did not help much, as they committed a large number of turnovers that often resulted in easy points for the visitors. Cluj also had a significant advantage at the free-throw line with 23 attempts compared to just 11 for Budućnost.

I expect a reaction from Budućnost in tonight’s game, especially on the defensive end where the approach should be far more serious and committed. Coach Žakelj is likely to make some tactical adjustments and apply constant pressure on the ball in order to slow down Cluj’s offensive organization as much as possible.

The total points line is understandably set quite high considering Cluj’s playing style, but it is difficult to believe that the home team will allow such a poor defensive performance twice within just three days.
