AFCON: Cameroon vs Gabon Prediction 24/12/2025

Betting on Winner
I personally have had an affinity with Cameroon since their chaotic run to the World Cup Finals in 1990. They have traditionally been one of the big names in African football and have won this tournament five times in the past. The last however was back in 2017. They missed out to Cape Verde in World Cup qualifying and then lost in the playoff matches to DR Congo. There is complete confusion and anger in the camp and among fans at the moment and this tournament could prove a disaster. That is despite qualifying with ease with 4 wins and 2 draws from 6 games played in a group including Kenya and Zimbabwe. But we have been here before with Cameroon. They were in a similar state at the 2022 World Cup and then beat Brazil 1-0. They seem adept at turning around bad situations. The squad has plenty of top European talent in it and they have more than enough quality to go deep in the competition if they get things right. Gabon look quite a tight unit in comparison. They have a squad that includes plenty of decent players from the French, Turkish and African top leagues. They ran Ivory Coast close in their World Cup Qualifying group, no mean feat, but got thrashed by Nigeria in the playoff round. They got here finishing a distant second to Morocco in their qualifying group, but easily saw off rivals Lesotho and the Central African Republic. They play a free flowing fluid attacking brand of football which can lead to heavy defeats or big wins. This will suit Cameroon who look to target man Bryan Mbeumo to hold the ball up as they transition from defence to attack. I think they will get themselves back on track in this game with a win over Gabon and this is priced at odds of over 2.00 at most bookmakers.
