Champions League: Paris Saint Germain – Liverpool 08/04/2026

Shiny pairing between popular ambitious teams, with the momentum suggesting last year’s European champions have the upper hand.
Paris have a relatively average season, but will ultimately not have trouble winning the league again. The Saturday top derby at Lens was postponed (due to the matches with Liverpool and of course consistent with the favor Parisians have in the federation…) and they are focused on Liverpool, whom they eliminated last year on the way to the trophy. As I think throughout the season, their main goal seems to be the repeat, with coach Enrique believing his stars needed special handling and rest to show their best at the end when everything is decided. Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Doue indeed seem to be hitting form and Liverpool’s defense will have many problems.

They conceded 4 goals from City in the cup, inspire no defensive confidence, and goalkeeper Alisson is also missing. I think everyone understands they cannot challenge anything with this defense. Last year they won 0-1 despite being eliminated, but this year, despite heavy spending, they appear constantly vulnerable and in the Premier League rarely kept a clean sheet, conceding many chances to everyone.
Paris have many defensive weaknesses but never face pressure in domestic matches and I believe this is masked, goalkeeper Safonov is inconsistent and set pieces often hurt them, as on Friday against Toulouse.

High tempo match with Paris rightful favorite but Liverpool capable of attacking to chase qualification in the second match at Anfield (where they lost 0-2 last year to Paris, but that was the first leg of the round of 16). Eight years ago they produced spectacular matches in the group stage, something similar I expect again this year.

Since I believe the visitors will score, the combination of both teams to score and over 2.5 goals will be my choice and the odds allow a bet.
