How We Prepare Our Greyhounds Predictions

To prepare and develop our Greyhounds predictions, there are a variety of factors we consider. Our experts analyse every detail that can have an impact on how a race might play out, or how a specific greyhound might perform.

To be specific, we analyse a greyhound’s recent performances, along with the types of track each runner prefers. We also look at weather conditions, as well as the condition of the track, comparing this information with a greyhound’s previous performances in similar conditions.

We also examine the quality of odds available from betting sites from all over the world. Finding value in betting odds is one of the keys to betting successfully, and we aim to find those bets that represent value for our readers.

Each detail is carefully considered to ensure we’re presenting top quality Greyhounds predictions.

  • Updated Data and Statistics

Researching statistics is key to successful betting, and something that our experts undertake regularly. We maintain an extremely high level of knowledge of greyhound races taking place all over the world, to ensure we’re providing our readers with well-researched, knowledgeable tips.

  • Dog Performance

The form of a greyhound is another key aspect we consider when developing our predictions. Generally, the best greyhounds are consistent in their form and tend to perform well across the racing season.

In addition to their finishes, we also look at the types of track a particular greyhound has performed well on, along with if they prefer the inside or outside track. We examine the weight of a greyhound, along with their physical attributes, like pace and stamina, to assess potential bets.

  • Odds Analysis and Value Bets

Finding value bets is something our experts keep an eye out for. Along with looking for value, our team compare odds from a variety of betting sites to ensure they’re betting on the best possible price.

What race types do we cover?

Our experts provide their tips and predictions on a variety of race types. In greyhound racing, there are a range of racing grades. Take a look below for the major race types our team cover.

  • A Class (Standard races) A Class races are the standard race type, covering a variety of speed levels. The A Class scope ranges from A1 to A11.
  • D Class (Sprint races) The D Class grade scope ranges from D1 to D6 and covers the quickest races. Generally, D Class races are much shorter than others, with fewer bends to focus on sheer speed.
  • S Class (Staying races) S Class races cover a longer distance than Sprint races, meaning greyhounds who are likely to be successful in this type might not have blistering pace, but do have great stamina and staying power.
  • M Class (Marathon races) Marathon, or M Class, races, cover a much longer distance, with races in this class generally between 800 metres and 1000 metres. Greyhounds who perform well in this type of race are usually amongst the fittest, and certainly with the highest stamina.
  • P Class (Puppy races) As its name suggests, Puppy races, or P Class, feature greyhounds who are aged between 15 and 24 months. This race type is a great way to spot potential top class greyhounds for future betting opportunities.
  • H Class (Hurdle races) Greyhounds with great flexibility and agility tend to perform well in H Class races. Races are relatively short, but contain a range of obstructions which can make it difficult for a greyhound to master.

What are the Major Greyhound Races that we cover

Our team of experts provide predictions on a variety of greyhound races taking place all over the world. The most common races we cover include the following:

  • Greyhound St Leger - Founded in 1928, the Greyhound St Leger takes place in Nottingham, England. It’s a 750 metre race on sand, with a top prize of ÂŁ20,000.
  • The Melbourne Cup - One of the most famous races in the sport, the Melbourne Cup takes place at Sandown Park in Australia. It has a distance of 515 metres and is run on sand. There is a prize purse of $1 million available, with the winner receiving $500,000.
  • Irish Oaks - Founded officially in 1932, although the first race actually took place two years earlier, the Irish Oaks is one of the most prestigious races in the greyhound world. Featuring a sand track, it has a distance of 525 metres, with a top prize of €25,000.

What trap number wins most often in greyhound racing?

On the surface, there seems very little difference in trap numbers and their winning percentages. However, research suggests that Trap 3 wins more often than any other trap, with a win percentage of 20%. Trap 1 is in second place with 18%, followed by Trap 4 and Trap 2 with 17% and 16% respectively. Trap 5 and Trap 6 have the lowest percentage of wins, with 15% and 14%.

Bet Types and Markets in our Greyhounds Predictions

Our greyhounds predictions and tips are offered on a range of betting markets. While the Outright Winner market is the most popular way to bet on greyhounds, there are other markets available that could present more value.

Outright Winner Bets

The simplest way to bet on greyhounds, and a market that many of our predictions are based on, is the Outright Winner market. For this bet, you’re simply placing a wager on which greyhound will win the race in question.

Forecast Bets

A Forecast bet allows you to predict which two greyhounds will finish in the top two, in the correct order. This market can offer greater odds than a standard Winner bet, but can be much more difficult to get right.

Reverse Forecast Bets

A Reverse Forecast bet allows you to predict which two greyhounds will finish in first and second, in any order. Again, this is more difficult to get right than a Winner bet, but gives more flexibility than a standard Forecast wager.

Winning Trap

While betting on a specific greyhound to win and betting on the winning trap might sound similar, there is a difference between the two and why many operators offer this market in addition to Race Winner. The main difference is if you bet on a specific greyhound, and they’re pulled from the race for any reason, your bet almost certainly still stands, as more often than not a replacement is found.

Inside v Outside

A popular market amongst greyhounds bettors is Inside v Outside. With this market, you’re betting on if you think the eventual winner will start from the inside traps, that is 1, 2 or 3, or the outside traps, 4, 5 or 6. This market can give us a better chance of success, as essentially we’re giving ourselves three possible options. The odds for this market, though, can be much shorter than a Winner bet.

Odds v Even

Following a similar premise to the Inside v Outside market, betting on Odds v Even can again offer us a better chance of success, but at shorter odds. With this market, you’re betting on if the winning greyhound will come from an odd number trap, that is 1, 3 or 5, or an even number trap, 2, 4 or 6.

Predictions for Other Sports

In addition to our greyhounds predictions, our tipsters provide their thoughts and analysis on a range of sports and events, including the following:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Golf
  • Horse Racing
  • Boxing
  • Tennis

FAQ. Frequently Asked Questions

  • đź’ˇ What is the best way to bet on greyhounds?

If you’re unfamiliar with betting on greyhounds, we recommend you start with the most simple of bets - the Race Winner Single. When you gain more experience and learn more about how the sport works, you might then look at different bet types.

  • đź’ˇ How do weather conditions affect a race?

The weather can have a huge impact on how particular greyhounds run. Some prefer a wet track, so if the track has received rain in the lead up to the race, this is something worth considering. Others race well on dry tracks. In addition to the weather, consider the surface of the track and the history of a specific greyhound on that track type.

  • đź’ˇ Can you make money consistently with greyhounds betting?

Is it possible to make money? Yes. Is it possible you’ll lose money? Yes, and more often than not. Betting successfully on greyhounds is difficult, make sure you research each race thoroughly to give yourself the best chance of winning wagers.

  • đź’ˇ How important is greyhound form in betting?

Greyhound form is certainly an important aspect to consider when making your selection. Generally, greyhounds who have had previously good results tend to keep that form going, the best greyhounds tend to be consistent throughout the racing season.

  • đź’ˇ Why do odds change before a race?

Odds can change for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons is betting volume - if a particular greyhound has been backed by a large number of bettors, the betting site is likely to shorten the price. Similarly, if very few have backed a specific runner, the odds are likely to lengthen.

  • đź’ˇ How can I predict a greyhound race more accurately?

The key is research. Betting on greyhounds can be tough to do successfully, but with research and analysis, you give yourself the best chance of success.
