Being the first ever Gibraltarian team to qualify for the goup stages of a UEFA competition was impressive enough for Lincoln Red Imps. However they travel to Warsaw with a real chance of making the knockout stages. They currently occupy the 24th spot in the Conference League table. A win or even a draw should be enough to squeeze them through.

The Imps have two wins, a draw and two losses from their five games so far. This includes a really impressive home victory over fellow Polish side Lech Poznan. Their task is helped by the fact that Legia Warsaw have nothing to play for. UEFA squad rules means they won’t be able to rest all their players but should mean that they face a much weaker side than they would at the outset of the competition. I really cannot see Legia Warsaw taking this match too seriously, while for the Imps this is a game that will mean everything to the players and fans and they will go there representing the whole of Gibraltar.

I appreciate their away form has been dreadful in European competition this season. They have suffered defeats in all but one of their games away from the rock. But I think the fact that a draw should be enough to get them through will see them defend with their bodies and hearts on the line and a weakened and disinterested Polish opposition will just be enough to see them scrape a draw they need.
