United are having yet another problematic season, with great inconsistency in their performances. The only constant, at least over the last two months, has been the chaotic nature of their games. In their last ten matches (all in the league), a total of 39 goals have been scored, with the gg+over combo landing in eight of them. Overall, they have the second best attack in the league and the worst defense among the top twelve teams in the standings.

Newcastle matches are more controlled, but especially against opponents who play openly, they have no issue matching the tempo. Their record over the last ten games shows nine gg+over results (the exception being the derby against Sunderland), with 34 total goals.

Away from home they have not been as strong this season, but the significant absences for United (including Bruno Fernandes) give them hope for an away result. We will focus on the goals scenario, which is supported by both teams performances and results, as well as the usually very productive spirit of Boxing Day (this will be the only Premier League match of the day).
