Up to a point, OFI were clearly one of the disappointments of this season. However, they have shown major improvement in recent matches and look capable of turning things around. Their squad is certainly not built to fight relegation. Based on their recent performances, they look able to climb towards mid table and even challenge for a place in the European playoffs (positions 5-8). A major target once again is the Cup, as the two legged semifinals against Levadiakos give them the chance to reach a second consecutive final. With Kontis on the bench, they look much better at home as well. In their three most recent matches in Crete, they beat Panserraikos 3-0 and twice defeated Asteras Tripolis (Cup and league) by 2-0 and 4-0.
The season looked difficult from the start for Panaitolikos. They weakened in the summer, remained competitive for a while thanks to the discipline brought by Petrakis, but the coaching changes did not work in their favor. With Anastasiou on the bench, they tried to play more attacking football, but lacked the quality to support that approach. They lost their defensive balance and especially in recent matches their performances have been very poor. They come from five consecutive defeats, with a total goal difference of 1-14, and will need major improvement to avoid serious trouble.
With boosted morale and key players returning, OFI are an option for the final result. At odds around 2.00, the risk is worth taking. They clearly have a better squad and much better current form than their opponent, who are going through their worst period since the start of the season.
