Snooker Shoot Out – Who will win against the clock?

The Shoot Out is a very popular competition in the world of snooker. Providing a different type of match format, the Snooker Shoot Out has drawn a range of new fans to the sport, who are impressed with the quick play this format requires.

We’re going to examine this year’s edition of the tournament and assess which players stand the best chance of winning. We’ve looked at how this format works and the players who are most suited to this variation, therefore standing a better chance of winning the event outright. Tom Ford heads into this year’s competition looking to retain his title, the first Ranking title of his career. Ford is the current Champion after beating Liam Graham in last year’s Final, and he’s amongst the favourites to repeat the feat this time around.

We’ve analysed his performances in previous editions as part of the development of our Snooker Shoot Out prediction. He starts his defence against World Number 44, Martin O’Donnell.

Shaun Murphy

World Ranking: 9

Record: Round 2

The Magician is one of the biggest names in snooker. The 2005 World Champion is the only player in the history of the Snooker Shoot Out to hit a maximum break, his 147 coming in 2023 in his Round One match against Bulcsu Revesz.

Shaun Murphy has never reached the Final of the Snooker Shoot Out, which may come as a surprise to many as The Triple Crown Winner is well known for his break building abilities. Could 2025 be his year to win this ranking event? He’s definitely in our thoughts as we build our Snooker Shoot Out prediction.

Murphy begins this year’s tournament with a Round One fixture against Patrick Whelan.

Liam Graham

World Ranking: 115

Record: Finalist (2024)

Liam Graham is one of the most exciting young talents to hit the snooker circuit in the last few years. Graham reached the 2024 Final after an impressive display, beating huge names like Mark Selby and Ali Carter in the process. He was ultimately beaten by Tom Ford by 31 points to 28.

His appearance in the Final was Graham’s best ranking finish to date, and this has led us to considering him for our Snooker Shoot Out prediction. The Scotsman’s ranking has dropped considerably over the course of this last year, and he’ll be looking for a good performance in this event in order to challenge again for the top 100.

Liam Graham is up against Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Wai in his first round match.

Reanne Evans

World Ranking: 99

Record: Round 2 (2023)

Reanne Evans is the biggest name in women’s snooker. An icon of the game, Evans is the Number One in the women’s game. In her career, she’s won 12 Women’s Snooker Championships. Alongside Luca Brecel, Evans is also the World’s Mixed Doubles Champion.

Reanne Evans became the first woman to win a Snooker Shoot Out match. She also  became the first woman to beat a male snooker player in a televised ranking event when she beat Stuart Bingham in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Her pedigree in this competition, as well as snooker in general, makes her part of our thoughts for our Snooker Shoot Out prediction.

While there’s a tough field at this year’s event, we believe Reanne Evans can certainly make an impact at the 2025 Snooker Shoot Out. She starts in Round One with a match against Mohammed Shehab.

Ellise Scott

World Ranking: 1st (World Women’s Snooker U21’s)

Record: First Event

Ellise Scott is one of the eight amateurs invited by the WPBSA (World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association) to take part in the 2025 9Club Snooker Shoot Out. For Scott to reach the latter stages of the tournament would be a huge ask, but we’re excited to see how the Women’s Under 21’s Number One will perform in her biggest competition to date.

Scott has been drawn against reigning Women’s World Champion Bai Yulu in Round One. Both players have come into our thoughts as we develop our Snooker Shoot Out prediction.

Prediction for the Snooker Shoot Out

The one-frame set up of the Snooker Shoot Out makes it incredibly exciting to watch. It really is a competition where anyone can realistically win – a good frame you’re through to the next round, a bad frame and you’re knocked out. For this reason, you might think an accurate Snooker Shoot Out prediction would be difficult to develop.

However, we think this is Shaun Murphy’s year to win the event. A great break builder, once Murphy is ‘in’, he very rarely gives his opponent a chance to get back into the frame.
