Premier League: Sunderland vs West Ham 24/01/2026

Betting on Goals
Sunderland face West Ham on Saturday with the teams at different ends of the table and with very differing objectives to those the fans probably expected to be thinking about when the season kicked off in August. Sunderland sit 9th and have an outside chance of making it into a European place after having a super season so far. They have struggled a bit of late indeed, until their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, they had gone 5 games without a win. They have still been picking up points, though with 4 draws in those games and only a surprise 3-0 loss away to Brentford inbetween. Some of these struggles can be put down to missing players over at AFCON but with them all back in the squad for this game they should be in a much better headspace for West Ham’s visit. West Ham on the other hand sit 9 places lower than Sunderland in 18th and in serious relegation trouble.. Of course they managed to beat Tottenham away at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last week (and with a last second goal that ruined my bet and Thomas Franks weekend.) However their form before that has been absolutely dreadful, they always play out their skin against Spurs however so they won’t be as strong in this one. I think this one is going to be a particularly tight contest won by the odd goal. I think Sunderland will see West Ham off, however, looking at the odds a bet on the under 1.5 goals seems to represent a bit of value. I’m expecting a tight contest between two teams who have both struggled to score more than once in recent weeks. Megapari has decent odds on this.
