One of the most important games of Round 35 in the EuroLeague takes place in Kaunas, where Žalgiris will host Dubai in a direct clash that could have a major impact on the playoff race.
Žalgiris has undoubtedly been one of the biggest surprises of the season. The Lithuanian side has exceeded all expectations and currently sits in 6th place with a 21–14 record, putting them in a strong position not only to secure a direct playoff spot but potentially even home-court advantage. Additional optimism comes from their schedule, as they face lower-ranked teams after this matchup.
Dubai, on the other hand, has made a very solid impression in its debut EuroLeague season, despite numerous logistical challenges and the fact that they have often played away from their Coca-Cola Arena. However, their loss to direct rival Maccabi Tel Aviv significantly reduced their playoff chances, while a win over AS Monaco Basket in the previous round kept them mathematically alive.
A major handicap for Dubai is the absence of Dwayne Bacon, the team’s top scorer averaging 16 points per game. His absence creates a significant offensive gap that the rest of the team must fill.
One of the players expected to take on a larger offensive role is Justin Anderson. A trusted player of coach Jurica Golemac, Anderson has established himself as a typical 3&D player, primarily a defensive specialist. However, recently he has been receiving increased playing time, which is directly reflected in his offensive production.
Over the last four games, Anderson has shown a clear improvement in form, and with an expected workload of over 30 minutes in this matchup, the line of 5.5 points set by bookmakers appears more than achievable for a strong wing with a reliable three-point shot.
