The UEFA Nations League kicks off for Italy and Türkiye on October 5, 2026, marking a fresh start for both nations. With neither side having played a competitive fixture in the nascent season, this encounter presents a blank slate and an early opportunity to lay down a marker in their group.
For Italy, the focus will undoubtedly be on establishing their customary tactical discipline and creative flair from the outset. Managerial choices regarding midfield balance and striking options will be key to unlocking Türkiye's defence. Türkiye, meanwhile, will aim to leverage their often-physical approach and passionate support, seeking to disrupt Italy's rhythm and capitalise on any early-season rustiness. Watch for individual battles in the midfield, as both teams look to assert dominance and dictate the tempo. The early stages will likely be cagey, with neither side wanting to concede first, making set-pieces and moments of individual brilliance potential game-changers. This opening fixture is crucial for building momentum in a competitive Nations League campaign.
