Champions League: Atletico Madrid vs Manchester Utd 13/10/2026
Atletico Madrid head into this clash in significantly better form, and with home advantage and Manchester United facing numerous squad problems, the hosts are expected to impose their rhythm from the outset and exploit the weaknesses in the visitors’ defence.
Betting on Home Team Goals
Atletico Madrid began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, but have since recorded four consecutive victories in La Liga. Their home triumph over fierce rivals Real Madrid stands out in particular. Diego Simeone’s side appear to have found their rhythm, while the uncertainty surrounding Julian Alvarez’s situation now seems to be behind them. The Argentine has been getting more opportunities in recent matches, and there is little doubt that a striker of his quality is capable of rediscovering the goalscoring form he has shown in previous seasons.
Manchester United, on the other hand, find themselves in a completely different situation. Following an impressive 4-0 victory over Sabah, they have endured a disappointing run of performances in the Premier League, collecting just two points from their last four matches. Their latest setback came at home against Tottenham last weekend, when United conceded a stoppage-time equaliser despite enjoying a numerical advantage.
However, it is not just the results that should concern United’s supporters and coaching staff, but the manner of their performances. Tottenham completely outplayed the hosts during the opening half-hour, and only poor finishing prevented them from establishing a one or two-goal lead. United’s defence looks extremely vulnerable and prone to costly mistakes, while the absences of Shaw, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Dorgu and Mainoo further complicate matters. These personnel problems could force several players to operate in unfamiliar positions, creating weaknesses that Atletico should be capable of exploiting.
I expect the hosts to set a high tempo from the opening whistle, applying aggressive pressure on United’s back line and taking advantage of their defensive uncertainty. Atletico are a much more organised side and currently in considerably better form, so they should be able to take control of proceedings at the Metropolitano and gradually break down the visitors’ resistance.
