Champions League: Dortmund vs Villarreal 08/09/2026
Borussia Dortmund will begin their 12th consecutive Champions League campaign at Signal Iduna Park, where they will welcome Spanish side Villarreal.
Goals Betting
Borussia opened the new season with a defeat to Bayern Munich in the Super Cup final, but have since recorded three consecutive victories, including two in the Bundesliga. At the weekend, they secured an away win against Hoffenheim after a remarkable second-half comeback. At the start of the second half, they were two goals behind, but a fantastic performance over the final 30 minutes allowed them to completely turn the game around and deservedly claim another victory.
Villarreal, on the other hand, have made a very poor start to the new La Liga season. They have collected just two points from their first four matches, with last weekend’s home defeat to newly promoted Deportivo particularly painful. Despite entering the game as clear favourites, Villarreal conceded their lead in the final ten minutes, leaving their supporters with yet another major disappointment.
The “Yellow Submarine” have looked extremely vulnerable defensively at the start of the season, raising questions about how much patience the club’s hierarchy will have with new head coach Inigo Perez if the poor results continue. Villarreal have conceded as many as eight goals in their opening four La Liga matches, making this trip to Dortmund particularly difficult at such an inconvenient moment.
Borussia Dortmund are known for their attacking and high-intensity style of play, and that approach could cause major problems for a Villarreal defence that currently inspires little confidence. I expect the hosts to take control of the match from the very beginning and put serious pressure on the visitors’ goal, with a realistic possibility of Borussia Dortmund scoring at least two goals.
