EuroLeague: Olympiacos vs Efes 09/10/2026
Due to Anadolu Efes’ injury problems and the absence of their main offensive weapon, Jordan Loyd is expected to take on greater scoring responsibility and become one of the key players for the visiting team in Piraeus.

The new EuroLeague season has only just begun, yet Anadolu Efes are already facing serious problems. Mike James suffered a serious injury in last week’s game against Crvena Zvezda, having been expected to lead this new-look team. Efes reacted quickly by finding a replacement in Cam Payne, who will therefore return to European basketball. However, there is little chance that the left-handed point guard will make his debut as early as the game in Piraeus.
Under these circumstances, Efes will be short-handed in the backcourt, meaning head coach Pablo Laso will have to rely on his main options, who should see increased playing time and take on greater responsibility. One of them is Jordan Loyd, who has made a solid start to the season. This is his second season working with Laso, so he is already familiar with the demands of the experienced coach.
This time, Loyd will be expected to shoulder a greater share of the scoring burden. Alongside Strazel and Šarić, he should be one of the team’s main offensive options. In the past, particularly during his time at Monaco, he has sometimes been more passive, allowing teammates who were more eager to shoot to take the initiative. However, Efes cannot afford to underutilize his offensive potential at the moment, as they will desperately need his points on one of the toughest away trips in the EuroLeague.
Throughout his career in European basketball, as well as during his appearances for the Polish national team, Loyd has repeatedly demonstrated his scoring ability and how easily he can find his way to the basket. Given Efes’ injury problems and the responsibility he is expected to assume, I believe he will have enough opportunities in Piraeus to deliver a strong scoring performance.
