Thanks to a physically strong perimeter and an organized defense, Fenerbahce could limit Carlik Jones’s impact, which would make Partizan’s offense even harder to run and open the way for the hosts to claim another win.

Team Points Betting

On Tuesday, Fenerbahce sent Zalgiris home from Istanbul with a commanding 19-point win. It was one of the best and most mature performances from this new-look team since the start of the season. Right from tip-off, the hosts set a high tempo at both ends of the floor and made it clear to the quality side from Kaunas that a good result would be hard to come by. Brexton Key once again proved to be an excellent signing who, beyond his tough defense, can also contribute a lot on offense, while veterans Shields and Clyburn played their best games since joining the club, combining for 31 points.

Partizan, on the other hand, came crashing back down to earth against Panathinaikos at the Belgrade Arena. The Black and Whites were soundly beaten, scoring just 55 points. It is clear that Joan Penarroya’s side played at the very limit of their abilities in the first three EuroLeague rounds, but few expected such an uninspired and offensively inefficient display in the first game of this double-round week.

Almost everything in Partizan’s offense starts with Carlik Jones, the brains of the team and its most talented player. He played at an exceptionally high level in his first four EuroLeague games, but against Panathinaikos he fell short along with the rest of the team. Jasikevicius is surely aware of how important Jones is to Partizan’s game, and I expect Fenerbahce to pay him special attention on defense. The hosts have an extremely physical and defensively strong perimeter whose primary task will be to slow Jones down and force him to play off the ball as often as possible.

If Fenerbahce manage to limit his influence and take away his role as the main playmaker, Partizan’s offense could lose much of its efficiency. The Black and Whites would then have to look for alternative solutions against the hosts’ tough, organized defense, which is why I expect them to have plenty of trouble creating quality shooting opportunities.
