Flamengo won both the league title and the Copa Libertadores last season and entered the new Brasileirao campaign as the market’s main favorite to win the championship again.

In March, they dismissed the highly successful Felipe Luiz and replaced him with the experienced Leonardo Jardim, a coach well tested at this level. Flamengo possess a very deep and talented squad, capable of handling their extremely demanding schedule.

At the moment though, they are not in their best form, having recorded just one win in their last four league matches. In addition, they will be forced to deal with several important absences, as ten of their players have been called up by their national teams.

Coritiba returned to the top division and have been one of the pleasant surprises of the season. Fernando Seabra has built a very disciplined, balanced and well-organized side and after 17 rounds they sit in 6th place in the standings. They will also have some absences to manage, with three regular starters unavailable, but the impact is not expected to be as severe as it is for Flamengo.

Flamengo still have quality depth, but the absences are too many to ignore. They will field a lineup full of talented players, though without the chemistry needed to justify odds around 1.35. Coritiba may lack the same individual quality, but they are a true team unit and arrive in excellent form. Under these conditions, they look capable of covering the +1.25 Asian handicap.
