Sweden Allsvenskan: Goteborg vs Kalmar 09/08/2026
Kalmar are in better form and, considering Goteborg’s fatigue and ongoing problems, represent a valuable betting option at underdog odds.

Goteborg are beginning to show signs of fatigue from their congested schedule and simply do not have enough squad depth to cope with playing twice a week on a regular basis. On Thursday, they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Gent, with the return leg coming up in midweek.
The atmosphere deteriorated toward the end of July following a home defeat to Levadia and a 4-1 away loss to Sirius. Tensions boiled over in training, with players reportedly involved in a confrontation, while the board opted for the easiest solution by changing managers, appointing former assistant Bjorklund.
Goteborg have struggled badly at home. They lost both of their European fixtures, while their league record on home soil stands at 2-2-3. One of those victories came against Brommapojkarna, who were reduced to ten men from the 33rd minute, while the other came last weekend against a Degerfors side in freefall, having suffered five consecutive defeats since the break with a 0-10 goal difference.
Kalmar, meanwhile, look like a serious and well-coached side. Despite operating on a relatively small budget, they have remained competitive in most of their matches and are enjoying a comfortable campaign well clear of the relegation battle.
They have also looked in very good shape since the league resumed. Last weekend, they picked up their first away point of the season in a 1-1 draw against the strong Hacken, in a match where Kalmar were arguably the better team.
Their away record is not particularly impressive, but they are not as poor on the road as the results suggest. In their current form, they can take advantage of Goteborg’s fatigue, and at underdog odds, Kalmar are worth backing.
