Leeds United vs Chelsea – Can the Blues keep the pressure on at the top of the table?

While much of the title talk has been about Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, Chelsea have been quietly going about their business. They’re currently second in the Premier League table and in good form, despite injuries to key players. Leeds, on the other hand, have been struggling. They’re currently in the relegation zone and with the pressure mounting on manager Daniel Farke, they’re in desperate need of a victory as they look to work their way out of danger.
We’re going to look at how this match might play out, if Leeds can earn some much needed points or if Chelsea can continue to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal. Read on to find our Leeds United vs Chelsea prediction.

Leeds United – Can they manage to find a win from somewhere?
Many were expecting Leeds to be fighting for a mid-table spot upon their return to the Premier League. Instead, they found themselves in a relegation battle with wins hard to come by. They’ve won two, drawn two and lost two of their six home games so far this season, with an average points per game at Elland Road of 1.37. They’ve scored 7 on home turf, but also conceded 7, a major reason why their home form is somewhat up and down.
Leeds don’t have the greatest record against Chelsea either. In their last ten meetings, Leeds have won just once, losing on seven occasions. Due to the time Leeds have spent outside the top flight, this record stretches back to 2003.
They’re on somewhat of a losing streak, and a game at home to Chelsea is going to be tough. However, Leeds need to start picking up points from somewhere if they want to enter the new year outside the relegation zone.
For our Leeds United v Chelsea prediction, we’ve analysed Leeds’ recent home form to assess if they can take something from this game.
Chelsea – Serious Title Contenders?
Chelsea currently have the best away form of any side in the Premier League. They’ve won four and drawn one of their six away games. While Enzo Maresca’s side have struggled at Stamford Bridge so far this season, their performances away from home are a major reason why they find themselves in second place.
A win against Leeds will certainly strengthen their claim to be in the mix for the title come the end of the season. There’s a long way to go, of course, but Chelsea could continue to go under the radar and head into the new year very close to top spot.
We’ve researched the side’s recent form and player performances for our Leeds United vs Chelsea prediction, particularly focusing on their away performances.
Leeds United v Chelsea – Possible Line Ups
Leeds United don’t have any new major injury concerns or suspensions, so the likelihood is they’ll continue with a similar side that were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa in their last home game. Anton Stach was withdrawn in that game but is recovering well and expected to make the starting line up here. We could also expect a start for Willy Gnonto as the winger continues his comeback from injury. Dan James might also get a start as he continues his recovery, though the likelihood is the Welshman would be on the bench for this one. Defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is also back in contention.
As for Chelsea, this game might come too soon for Cole Palmer to make his return. Romeo Lavia is also likely to miss out. With the exception of long term injuries to Levi Colwill, as well as Palmer and Lavia, Enzo Maresca is likely to have a pretty much full strength squad to choose from. We’re expecting a similar line up to that which beat Burnley away 2-0 in their last away fixture.
An important factor that we’ve looked at for our Leeds United vs Chelsea prediction is the line ups. Below, we’ve listed the players we’re expecting Daniel Farke and Enzo Maresca to field.
Leeds United Possible XI:
- GK: Lucas Perri
- DEF: Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, Gabriel Gudmundsson
- MID: Sean Longstaff, Ethan Ampudu, Anton Stach
- FW: Willy Gnonto, Lukas Nmecha, Noah Okafor
Chelsea Possible XI:

My Prediction for Leeds United v Chelsea
For our Leeds United v Chelsea prediction, it’s very difficult to look past an away victory for this one. Leeds are struggling, and we can’t really see a way for them to even get a point here, let alone manage a victory. With Chelsea aiming to keep the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, anything other than a win for Enzo Maresca’s side, and a comfortable one at that, is difficult to imagine.
