Ligue 1: Lyon vs Rennes 19/09/2026
Lyon, playing at home, have the quality, tradition, and the added advantage of their stadium, so despite potential fatigue after European duties, they should be closer to securing all three points.
Betting on Winner (DNB Option)
The clash between Lyon and Rennes is one of the standout matches of Matchday 5 in Ligue 1.
Both teams have started the new season very well and remain unbeaten so far. Lyon currently sit in fifth place with eight points, while Rennes are third with ten. It’s also worth noting that both teams come into this match after European fixtures. Each side played away from home, so fatigue could play a significant role.
Lyon faced a tough test against Anderlecht, which they managed to pass successfully. Although they didn’t deliver a perfect performance in Brussels, their experience and quality ultimately secured all three points. The key period was the opening half hour, during which they built a two-goal lead and managed to hold onto it until the final whistle. On the other hand, Rennes failed to take all three points from Graz and will have some regrets, considering they were the better side for most of the match against Sturm.
Both managers fielded near full-strength lineups in those games, and there won’t be much time to prepare for this encounter. Because of that, a highly attractive and free-flowing match is not expected. Looking purely at squad quality, Lyon have a slight edge in my opinion, with a marginally more talented roster, while home support will be an additional advantage. This is a team with the potential to play very good football this season, and I expect Paolo Fonseca to do a solid job with them.
Lyon have also handled Rennes relatively comfortably at home over the past two seasons. While I don’t expect such a convincing result this time, I believe the hosts have a realistic chance of claiming all three points once again.
