In a matchup between teams without playoff ambitions, Edwards is expected to take on a leading role and exploit Maccabi’s weakened backcourt for a strong offensive performance.

Two giants of European basketball and multiple EuroLeague champions have failed to meet expectations this season. Both Maccabi and Virtus will miss out on the playoffs for the second consecutive year, but they have still shown some improvement compared to last season when they were near the bottom of the standings.
Maccabi had a chance to get involved in the race for the top 10, but three consecutive losses ended those hopes. In their most recent game, a rescheduled Round 30 clash, they were defeated by city rivals Hapoel 99–89, further confirming their decline in form towards the end of the season.
On the other hand, Virtus have been in very poor rhythm in the closing stages of the EuroLeague campaign. They have suffered eight straight defeats in the competition, and even a coaching change has not brought the desired turnaround. However, over the weekend they managed to end their negative run with a domestic league win over Cantù (89–79), a game in which Carsen Edwards shined with 34 points.
Edwards, like the rest of the team, has struggled with shooting form recently, but his latest performance could signal a return to rhythm. His offensive contribution will be crucial for Virtus moving forward, especially in their pursuit of the Italian league title.
In tonight’s matchup against Maccabi, Edwards should have additional space to showcase his offensive potential, given the absences of Morgan and Vildoza in the backcourt. He is expected to take on more responsibility and lead the team, with extra motivation coming from the fact that last season, at this very venue, he set a EuroLeague record with 26 points in a single quarter while playing for Bayern.
