Conf League Qual: Panathinaikos vs CSKA Sofia 05/08/2026

Panathinaikos are still lacking attacking cohesion, CSKA Sofia are expected to defend deep, and with the caution that typically comes in a first leg, Under 2.75 Goals offers value.
Betting on Goals
I believe the goal line has been influenced by Panathinaikos’ two matches against Paks. However, the Hungarian side played with extremely high risk throughout both games. Their approach was open, aggressive, and often lacked defensive balance, turning those encounters into end-to-end contests for long spells.
This time, Panathinaikos will be without Touba, who had been a constant source of defensive problems, while facing a team expected to adopt a completely different approach. CSKA Sofia are comfortable defending in a deep block and are likely to do exactly that against a theoretically superior opponent. In the previous qualifying round, they recorded two 0-0 draws before advancing on penalties, underlining their pragmatic style.
Panathinaikos are not a team that creates a high volume of chances against organized defenses. Like many teams at this stage of the season, they are still lacking attacking fluency. They have a new head coach, several new signings, and clearly need more time to develop the offensive chemistry and automatisms required to consistently break down compact opponents.
The existence of a second leg also tends to make teams more cautious in the opening match, with neither side wanting to take unnecessary risks.
With the market pricing the low-scoring scenario as the outsider, I believe there is value in backing Under 2.75 Goals.
