ACB Playoffs: Real Madrid vs Tenerife 02/06/2026
Real Madrid enter the playoffs as a significantly stronger and deeper team, and against Tenerife—who struggled toward the end of the season and are unlikely to match up defensively—they are expected to confirm their status as the main title contender.
Betting on total points
The ACB League playoffs, the highest-quality national basketball competition in Europe, tip off tonight. In the opening quarterfinal matchup, first-seeded Real Madrid will face Tenerife, who secured their playoff spot as the eighth seed.
Real Madrid are coming off another impressive season. The “Royal Club” finished the regular season at the top of the standings and further underlined their dominance by resting several key players in the final stretch. Losses to Baskonia and Manresa in the last two rounds carried no competitive significance, as the team had already shifted full focus to the playoffs. Although they fell just short in their pursuit of the European crown, they remain fully justified as the top favorite to win the domestic title.
In contrast, Tenerife failed to replicate the results of previous years. The Canary Islands club missed out on reaching the FIBA Basketball Champions League final, while a string of weaker performances in recent weeks saw them drop to eighth place and draw arguably the toughest possible opponent at the very start of the playoffs.
Both Teams Strenghts
Additional motivation for Real Madrid comes from entering the playoffs after several games marked by controversial refereeing decisions and a degree of dissatisfaction within the club. Despite injury issues in the frontcourt, Madrid reacted quickly on the market, strengthening their center rotation by signing Mady Sissoko from Trieste, and earlier adding former Panathinaikos big man Omer Yurtseven. Their role will be to compensate for absences and bring added physicality in the paint, particularly in rebounding and rim protection.
Tenerife possess enough offensive quality to compete in certain stretches of the game, but their biggest issue could be on the defensive end. Real Madrid have had one of the most efficient offenses in the league throughout the season, and it is difficult to envision a scenario in which Tenerife can significantly slow down their pace and scoring output.
Considering everything shown during the season, along with the clear gap in roster depth, overall quality, and physical dominance, Real Madrid enter this matchup as overwhelming favorites, and anything other than a convincing home win would be a major surprise.
