NBA Playoffs: SA Spurs vs OKC Thunder 28/05/2026
San Antonio, in front of their home crowd, has a great opportunity to take advantage of Oklahoma’s missing players and, with a more aggressive performance from Wembanyama, extend the series and force a Game 7.
Betting on the Final Outcome
The defending champions are now just one step away from another NBA Finals appearance, but the series against the San Antonio Spurs has shown that Oklahoma will not finish the job easily. After five games played, the Thunder lead 3:2, although the scoreline perhaps does not fully reflect how competitive the Spurs have been throughout most of the series.
In the previous game, Oklahoma once again showed why they are the best team in the league when it matters most. Despite being without Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell, Mark Daigneault’s team controlled the game practically from the second quarter onward. That stretch ultimately decided the contest, as the Thunder built a double-digit lead and comfortably maintained it for the rest of the night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did not have his most efficient shooting performance, but he once again did everything an MVP is supposed to do — controlled the tempo, made smart decisions, and finished with 32 points and 9 assists. He also received strong support from teammates, especially Alex Caruso and Jared McCain, who both continued their excellent performances in this series.
On the other side, the Spurs once again looked like a team with clear quality and potential, but also a lack of experience in games of this magnitude. They were particularly hurt by their poor three-point shooting percentage, as well as losing control of the rebounding battle, which has been one of the key factors throughout the entire series.
A lot tonight will depend on Victor Wembanyama. After a monstrous start to the series, including 41 rebounds across the first two games, his rebounding numbers have dropped dramatically. Over the following three games combined, he collected only 18 rebounds, including a very poor first half in the previous matchup where he grabbed just one rebound. It is clear that San Antonio cannot realistically compete with this Oklahoma team without a dominant Wembanyama performance.
Still, the feeling is that the Spurs have room to raise their level. Playing at home, with an expectedly more aggressive approach and the fact that the Thunder arrive shorthanded without two important rotation players, the home team appears to have a realistic chance to extend the series and shift the pressure back onto the defending champions ahead of a potential Game 7 in Oklahoma.
