Before the break, Goteborg were in their best form since the start of the season. Four straight league wins (plus one in the Cup) took them up to 9th in the table and opened a double-digit points gap to the relegation battle.

Vasteras have been in good shape too. They’re one of the pleasant surprises of this year’s league: they started the season as one of the three favourites in the market to go down, and they’ve been sitting in the top half of the table ever since. They won three of their last four games, all against teams currently in the top eight.

Both sides are heading for a quiet end to the season, with some chance of fighting for a European spot, mainly if a top-three side wins the Cup.

On paper Goteborg have the better squad, but it hasn’t shown on the pitch. With eight rounds to go they’re three points behind their opponent. They’ll also be missing some important players: for sure both starting centre-backs, and possibly a few more of those listed as doubtful.

With the home win priced low, around 1.75, the conditions are there for going against it. Vasteras are a tough side, dangerous when they find space, and at the +0.75 Asian handicap they’re worth backing.
