At the start of the new season, Bahcesehir will face the toughest possible challenge, as they go up against the reigning champions, Fenerbahce.

Ahead of the new campaign, Bahcesehir appointed Sasa Djordjevic as head coach and further strengthened their roster with several notable signings. Marcquise Reed, last season’s top scorer, has joined the team, along with two former EuroLeague players and ex-Partizan members, Isiah Mike and Aleksa Avramovic. They looked very solid during the preseason, recording three respectable wins against Dubai, Cluj, and Aris. While preseason results do not necessarily carry too much weight, they can be a good indicator that this team might play quality basketball from the very beginning of the season.

On the other hand, Fenerbahce opened the season by winning the Turkish Super Cup, followed by a convincing victory over Virtus in the first round of the EuroLeague. The team features many new players and is still searching for ideal roles, but so far they have managed to compensate with sheer talent and experience.

It is evident that some time will be needed for roles within the team to fully settle. Wade Baldwin and Talen Horton-Tucker, who were already part of the squad, are expected to be among the main contributors. However, the arrivals of Shane Larkin and Will Clyburn, two of the best players in Europe over the past decade, along with Shavon Shields and Trent Forrest, who played key roles for their previous teams, significantly boost the roster.

Sarunas Jasikevicius is known as a highly methodical coach who likes to control a large number of his team’s possessions. This was already evident in Fenerbahce’s opening games, where they played a very controlled style with limited transition offense. A similar approach is expected on Sunday against Bahcesehir. It is unlikely we will see a fast-paced, high-scoring spectacle, which suggests that this game could stay within a lower total points range.
