The ACB League finals are set to begin, with Valencia and Barcelona—two teams that have shown the most throughout the playoffs—deservedly reaching the final battle for the championship trophy.
Unlike the quarterfinals, where three series went to a decisive Game 5, the semifinals were marked by complete dominance from the favorites. Valencia eliminated Joventut without a loss, facing a real challenge only in the first game, which they won 118–117 after overtime. That was followed by two convincing victories in which their opponent had little chance to seriously threaten.
Barcelona was just as dominant. The Catalans swept Tenerife 3–0, a team that had previously caused a major upset by eliminating Real Madrid. However, they couldn’t replicate that performance against Barcelona. They suffered a 30-point loss in the first game, while the remaining two were also comfortable wins for the Blaugrana.
We now have a final that promises top-level basketball. Valencia has maintained a high level of play even after the EuroLeague season ended, looking extremely well-organized and playing at a fast pace. They rightfully carry the role of favorites thanks to home-court advantage. However, Barcelona has been improving throughout the playoffs, and a major boost came with the return of Nicolás Laprovittola, who has taken over playmaking duties again and added creativity to their offense.
Both teams have been playing highly efficient basketball throughout the playoffs, with multiple offensive options in form and high shooting percentages. Therefore, an open game is expected, played at a fast tempo, with a high number of possessions and enough quality on both sides to produce another very high-scoring matchup.
